"I am sure he will soon-you are of an age,"The Princess said no more as she sensed it was a sensitive subject for Cordelia.

Mary rode on her gentle mare with steady paces. When she touched her with her heel she would go forwards into a canter but when the reins were jerked she would go back into a courteous walk. Mary loved her for this obedience. They leave the city by winding roads, so narrow that they can only go two abreast, and all the people of the city were leaning out of the overhanging windows to see us go by, the children shouting and running along side their train. The people looked in wonder and some asked each other who the girl riding beside Mary was-of course they did not know who she was.

On the broad sides of the road they took up both sides of the road and the market vendors in the central section shouted blessings and pull off their caps as we ride by. The place is rich with life, a cacophony of noise from people shouting their wares and the thunderous rumble of cart wheels on cobblestones.

Mary soon gives leave for her household to ride at a faster pace and they canter for the remainder of the journey to Whitehall.
