Catherine, the young Queen of Portugal, She was feeling lonely as she missed her mother which was locked away in a Nunnery in Spain for people thought she was insane. But mostly Catherine thought her mother was just angry of her father's mistresses. Catherine knew her mother was a kind and justly Queen before her father's escapades. Catherine hadn't seen her mother in 3 years and she was upset by not seeing her mother and losing her son to death. Catherine may of felt bad about her son only living for a few days, but her daughter Maria was healthy and now 2 years old. Catherine hardly saw her husband King John III but she always saw her young beautiful daughter.
One morning there was a knock on her door and told her maid to open the door and in come running the little princess Maria. Catherine stood up and bent down onto her knees and watched her daughter run towards her and Catherine grabbed her daughter and hugged her before standing up with the little princess on her hip "My little Darling" she said as she began to walk to the chair infront of the fireplace and sit on the chair and sat Maria on her lap beginning to sing a lullaby to her in Spanish

A Maid had given Catherine a letter and she had stopped singing to read it but kept her daughter on her lap. As Maria slept against her mothers chest, Catherine began to write a reply and she sent it off to her mother's current prison
Mother, It is good to hear from you I was so worried that Charles had banned you from writing to me I know you are not Loca, Your just being betrayed and hurt from Father's behavior before he died and Charles' behavior I might write to Charles to see if he would let you come to Portugal or i come to you with my little Maria Maria is such a gracious, smart little princess, much how you taught me and my sisters I miss you and wish Charles would be kind and merciful to let you come to me Lots of love Catherine, Queen of Portugal and Princess of Austria
