Your Majesty,

At the request of the Queen, Her Majesty Katherine, I forbid you to remarry until the decision of the case, and if you do all issue will be illegitimate. Furthermore I forbid any one in England, of ecclesiastical or secular dignity, universities, parliaments, courts of law, &c., to make any decision in an affair the judgment of which is reserved for the Holy See.

The whole under pain of excommunication.

As Your Majesty would not receive a former citation, this is to be affixed to the church gates of Bruges, Tournay, and other towns in the Low Countries, which will be sufficient promulgation.

Pope Paul III
Rome, 5 Jan. 1531.

Your Holiness,

I had to inform you that you have no authority on my Kingdom anymore. I appointed myself Supreme Head of Church. And I'll build a new Church, free from tyranny and superstition!
About Queen Katherine, she won't be called Queen for long. Because she was my brother Arthur's legitimate wife. And my marriage with her, in spite of Papal dispensation, is not valid! Since she can't give me a son, I am free, in my Kingdom, in my own Church, to marry whoever I wish!
Lady Anne Boleyn will give me legitimate heirs to the throne. And I expect from you that Rome recognize her as my wife and Queen! Otherwise, catholic faith will disappear from the face of England...for ever!
Decision is yours, Holy Father
