The days and nights were growing insufferable without Ibrahim at the palace. There were days when I awoke wondering if I had been hallucinating our budding love to one another. Nights were long the shining moon keeping the loneliness at bay until the sunrise came into view. Nobody could hold my attention all except one sweet lady who was like a sister to me Gulfem. She was the only person in the harem that I didn't see like a slave and I made sure all other Concubines knew of her importance within the royal family. The guards called out my name to her opening her chambers door to reveal my presence.

Gulfem it is always a breath of fresh air whenever I get a chance to see you.
In fact Gulfem had been on my mind ever since we walked through the harem with my valide mother the other day what we saw disturb me. Never had I seen anybody let alone a women act like that.
Do you remember the other day when the new concubines were bringing in and one of them was screaming as if she was brought up in the wild? It got me to think of you and your life before here.

Gulfem smiled to Sultana, but then a slight frown appeared on her face. I remember, my sultana, She replied. But what is that of my life that makes you think of it? She was confused, even her didn't remember much about her previous life. It was so long ago.

Never before had I asked about the life or even her name before she came here to us I guess I was just curious.
Was you like that when you first entered those doors of the harem. We have never really spoken about such things before I would be mortified if you saw me and my family as enemies like the wild red hair girl does.
I smiled sympathetically trying to understand just exactly what it must be like to become a slave. Although known Gulfem wasn't slave anymore sort of she was much respected concubine, and a very good friend of mine. She was like another sister.

Gulfem sighed, it had been so long she wasn't sure she remembers now. I know I was scared. I'd no idea what to expect. But I made peace with my destiny. It was one thing that kept her going through the years.
