He was a man interested in farming as well. That didn't surprise me as the mosy kindest of men liked to rear animals. I gave a hearty laugh when he said about buying a monkey I couldn't imagine that in the English court. Maybe on your own land you could buy a goat and then you will have goat's milk and cheese perhaps chickens as well. As for the monkey they say that Ceasre Garcia brought a monkey when his Farther was made a pope. He brought it to a dinner party with cardinals but I think it was a trick.

Thomas laughed before cutting a piece of his meat with his knife. He looked at her

Really? Very bold action. I could never bring a monkey at a royal dinner. I don't even imagine King's reaction. But I have been raised into a farm, and animals are my secret passion. Maybe a goat..that's a good idea. And..do you love animals, my lady? I was thinking..

He cleaned his mouth with napkin and leaned on her, lowering his voice

I was thinking...that I could give you a pet as gift when we'll come back to England. If your husband will be not disappointed, of course..

Every country does different things I am not even sure they have monkeys in England but think of the scandal I smiled liking the flow of the conversation I could imagine my husband with a monkey though. Yes I would like that very much it will help me when my husband is busy. A gift of my very own no ome im England had given me a gift as of yet I will surely treasure it.

Thomas smiled. For a moment he feared she could refuse it. But he felt happy hearing her answer

I'm glad to hear that, my lady. Let's see what I can do. I think a little dog will suit on you. My daughter absolutely loves her pet. You know..I'm arranging a marriage for her. And she seems happy. After all, it's my duty thinking about her future. I wish to become grandfather, one day. And..do you plan having children, lady Prue? You know...pets are lovely. But they can't replace children..

He said with a fatherly smile before taking another sip from water

I liked how passionate he was about his family it was a touching sentiment. Until he asked his question I had given no thought to my future with my husband I looked at him confused. In all honesty I haven't thought that far ahead, I shall say that children are a blessing from god.

I sipped from my wine his question was playing on my mind it had never been discussed having children.

My marriage was arranged too but I don't think your daughter knows how lucky she is to have a Farther who cares for her safety. Tell me how many children do you have.

Thomas smiled and paused a moment, before replying

I have four children, my lady. Three daughters, and one son. But only my daughter Margaret lives with me at court. Elizabeth and Cecily are in the country cause they don't love courtlife. And about my son John...well, I hope he'll follow my footsteps, one day. He is studying to become a lawyer..

He took a deep breath

When their mother died, I was so scared. The fear to raise my children alone, was added to the pain for losing my wife. But Alice was at my side all the time. So...I married her one month later my wife's death..

He added lowering his voice and glancing at Alice

A month! It was normally custom to mourn a year before marrying or was that just royals. So three daughters that must be a challenge. I took to drinking out of my goblet freely. A month! I kept repeating in my mind a month! When I thought did they decided to become an item a week after his wife death.

Thomas noticed her face's expression. He cleared his throat before adding

Indeed, it is. But I'm very proud of them. They are very virtous and obedient girls. I know..I know that normally a man takes more time before marrying again. But Alice and I were already very close. She was a friend of mine...not my mistress. I have never been unfaithful to Jane. But...she dried my tears and my children needed a mother. So why waiting further?

He said shrugging and glancing at Alice again

Lady Alice was being very silent on the matter. I hope that you still did a years morning like widows should. I felt sorry for all family members involved. Surely a female member could of helped with the upbringing.

Thomas took another breath. He knew Alice didn't like talking about that. But he smiled friendly at her

It was very difficult for me. I sincerely hope that you'll never find yourself in the same situation, but...I had to make a choice for my children's sake, and I did. But in spite of this, my daughter Margaret never accepted Alice in our family. She...she thinks that I wanted to replace her mother. But of course it's not true. I just hope that little by little she will learn to love her..

He added with a deep sigh. Dinner was almost ending and servants were bringing fruit and something to drink. But he was thoughtful. He had something in his mind

I wasn't sure myself if I wanted children to be left a widow would be terrible. I understand your point of view a mother and farther are both needed in the upbringing of children. Time is a great healer it may be years but maybe your daughter shall come to understand your choice when she is a mother herself. I gave a polite smile I now found the English to be far less boring with a lot of stories to tell.

Thomas nodded with a weak smile

I hope so, my lady. I hope so. Also...I'm seriously thinking to resign from my task as Chancellor once I'll be back to court. I haven't talked with my wife, yet. But...things are getting worse, and the King is no longer the illiminated Prince that I knew. So...I prefer to devote myself to spirituality..

He admitted almost whispering. Now he felt that Katherina was his friend. So he could share his thoughts with her
