While Brandon took the Great Seal Wolsey slowly detached the heavy chain from his neck and held it in his hands. He hesitated to hand it over and Brandon pulled it out of his hands. Wolsey swallowed.
'Where am I to go?' he asked.

Wolsey nodded and gathered all his dignity as he stood up and stepped into the lobby, followed by Norfolk and Brandon. The room was filled with people, all looking at him and as he walked on slowly, a man shouted comtemptuously. Make way for His Grace. Make way! People laughed loudly and with hunched shoulders against their hostility he kept walking through the crowd. Someone throwed an orange at him but besides a short startled glance he pretended he had not noticed.
