Its been a long time.

"Charles decided to spend some minute in the chapel, that day. He wanted to ask to God mercy for Margaret. He knew she was at her last days on Earth, and he wanted to pray for her to be healed. Even if it was impossible, he still believed in a miracle. After losing his friend William and his Daniel, he hoped that God wanted to save his wife, at least. Charles entered in the chapel with slow steps. His eyes got bigger by surprise when he saw Nan there, praying silently in front of the altar. Last time he saw her praying, she was still a lady in waiting. He approached her silently and knelt next to her. Then crossed, staring at the altar, and turned his eyes to her"

"Charles raised after kneeling and sat slowly next to her. He smiled weakly, after a deep sigh"

I...I didn't want to disturb you, Nan. I'm sorry. But I saw you praying so deeply...and I thought to join you. I...I came here for Margaret, you know...

"He explained whispering, turning his eyes around chapel"

"Charles took a deep breath after her question. He noticed that she looked rather thoughtful. He shrugged and turned his eyyes to hers again"

She...she is not suffering, I guess. The physician gave her something to decrease the pain. But she is not well...in spite of her efforts to look strong and healthy...

"He paused for a while, frowning at the end of his sentence"

Rather you...why you're here, Nan? Oh...if I may ask, of course...

"He added quickly"

"Charles let out a sigh as she mentioned Daniel. He looked at the cross too and nodded slowly"

Of course...what a silly question. I pray for him every evening in my room. You know...I came to Hartfield House, some month ago, and I visited his tomb. You...you don't know that because you were not inside house that day. I asked to your ladies, and they told me that you were away...

"He noticed her surprised expression and shook slowly his head"

"He whispered, lowering his eyes and biting his lips"

"Charles remained surprised by her kiss on his forehead. He smiled tenderly at her and hold softly her cheek in his hand"

"He said whispering, looking at her deep, beautiful eyes"

"Charles looked at her soft hand on his chest and smiled again. He felt his heart beating faster in his chest"

I...I just want you to be happy, Nan. Nothing else. Anyone else deserves happiness more than you...

"He added, staring at her beautiful face. Candle's light was lighting her cheeks, and everything was peaceful and silent around them"

"Charles nodded after her suggestion and stood up"

Oh...of course...

"He crossed again and muttered a prayer inside him for Daniel's soul and for Margaret. Then he crossed once more time and turned to her with a smile"

Come...I'll accompany you, Nan...

"He said tenderly, wrapping his arm around her shoulders and walking towards door with her"

"Charles opened the chapel's door and let her coming out first"

Do you wish I accompany you until your room to have rest? Or...somewhere else?

"He asked, once out of the chapel too"

It's quiet. I am home.

The smells of incense clings to me and the balmy embrace serves as a tangible memory of home. I was always so fond of that smell. I cannot help grin as I walk quietly into the empty chapel-no one is here. How I like it.
I bow at one of the pews and slid in to take a seat. After a cursory glance at the altar I pull out a kneeler and stand on my knees with my clasped hands afor me,"In nomeni patri et fili spiritus sancti,"I whisper in the only Latin I know.

"Let me safe here, my God...help me be brave,"I whisper with my clasped hands infront of my moist pink lips,"Help me live here for as long as it is your will. I am yours to command."
