| William had been alerted of a young woman coming to the tower who was currently in service to lady Anne he was not told of her crime, but such young ladies should not be locked up in the tower. William had promised to give her the best-est of care and would let no one hurt or see her until he heard from his majesty directly. | "Charles was sent in the Tower by the King himself. He was told to take informations about a certain Lady Mary Dawn. He remembered that once Norfolk came to talk about her. He was brought by Master Kingston. Once in his precence, he bowed with his head"
Master Kingston...His Majesty told me not so much about this matter. I'm here to write a report. So...can you please explain me what's going on with Lady Dawn?
"He asked kindly and curiously at the same time"

| I was shown to my room within the Tower to await my questioning, I knew this was all the doing of the Duke of Norfolk and I feared I may never be released despite being innocent of all wrong doings.
Master Kingston had been most gentle and kind easing my fears a little and promising me that I shall be kept from harm til he had heard from His Majesty
I sit on the chair and place my head upon the table as I start to sob

| "Your Grace, I am glad you have come." William told him most sincerely as the situation seemed to be a rather peculiar one, one that served the interest of the Howard clan one might say.
"Lady Dawn has told me everything that has happened the Duke of Norfolk... Even to say his name was like sour wine rolling around in one's mouth leaving a bitter aftertaste. "Wants Mary tried for speaking out about Anne Boleyn at first I laughed because the King can't imprison all who speak about her. On further speaking with Mary it turns out she is a faithful lady in waiting and has not said a bad word about her. It was Cromwell, who requested her arrest probably to humiliate the poor girl. Not even Elizabeth Barton has seen the inside of this tower and she is a true heretic against our King."

| "Charles nodded. Then he glanced towards the young girl"
I understand. Thank you, Master Kingston. I agree with you. There are much more important things to think about at the moment. But...let's do our duty in any case..
"He looked at lady Dawn and smiled"
My lady...please, don't be afraid. No one will harm you. Just answer to some question and you'll be at home soon..

| I look up as I'm addressed, realising it was his Grace I drop into a curtsy
Your Grace I stammer looking down at the ground I swear I have done no wrong
I slowly rise but keep my face downward as I continue to speak I have loyally served the Lady Anne and I believe I am here because I refused to marry His Grace the Duke of Norfolk

| I arrive at the Tower to question the Lady Dawn over her disloyalty.
I go to her cell.
" Now Lady Dawn tell me your story about what happened because there are harsh accusations against you".

| Geoffrey came in the cell where Cromwell were questioning Lady Dawn. He was ordered to bring some water and food in case the Secretary or someone else needed them. He noticed that the Duke of Suffolk was there too, and he wondered how he was involved in it. Lady Mary Dawn looked scared. But he smiled and bowed
Master Secretary, Your Grace..Master Kingston. I'm here for anything you need..
He said simply and looked silently at them

| I look towards His Grace the Duke of Suffolk then back towards Master Cromwell, I feel sick with fear and grab the chair to steady myself before I faint.
"I swear by all that is holy I am innocent" I cry as my cell door opens

My lady...there is no charge of treason on you. So please, try to remain calm...
"He said in neutral tone. But he was actually trying to warn the Lady and Kingston about Cromwell's intention to attract King's attention upon him"

| My lord Brandon I cannot possibly talk to the lady Dawn with you here so if you would not mind I would like to speak to her alone.
I will not start my interrogation until we are alone.
I would like to know though Mary why you threaten a member of the royal family and it is said that you have not been loyal to the lady Anne which I shall speak to her about.
Please tell me everything that happened my lady from the very first day.

My lord..I'm here to write e report. And it's evident I can't do that if I don't hear your interrogation. What should I refer to the King?

| Very well my lady he will stay.
Now tell me Mary why did you threaten his lord the Duke of Norfolk and tell me why there are rumours that you have been disloyal to the lady Anne and that you threatened the Duke of Norfolk in public.
Why have you done this Mary?
I want your version of these events and for you to actually tell me something other than I am innocent.
If you continue to say nothing I will have no choice but to force a confession out of you by any means necessary.
No speak Lady Dawn and try to defend yourself.
I get the confession paper out ready for her to sign and to take back to the king.
Hurry and speak I don't have all day.

| My Lord I start His Grace the Duke of Norfolk sent me a message to meet with him at his private house ahead of a family gathering, I went in the belief that he wished to have further knowledge of his Niece the Lady Anne as I am her Lady in waiting. Upon my arrival His Grace proposed marriage and, I was shocked as we had not had any prior contact, I foolishly accepted.
I press my fingers against my temples and shiver as I recall the events
He immediately introduced me to his niece Lady Mary and his daughters, I felt most uncomfortable with his behaviour - making me Lady of his House while he was away and acting most ungentlemanly that I began to doubt my acceptance. I spoke to Lady Mary and Lady Margery Seymour about my fears and decided to end the engagement I look towards the Duke of Suffolk and blush
Master Secretary I look down His Grace Norfolk did twice try and fail to take certain advances against my person, I was in fear of my safety and life. I confided in Lady Margery and asked her and Lady Mary to be present when I ended the engagement. I swear on all that is holy I never signed a contract with his Grace
I brush away tears
I have been loyal to Lady Anne and our gracious King I would never say or act against them, His Grace Norfolk once approached me to arrange a kidnapping of one of Queen Katherine's ladies which I refused and he then claimed was spoken in jest. I believe these charges have been fabricated by His Grace Norfolk because I broke the engagement and refused to lie with him
I start to weep with fear and shame

| My lady do you have any real proof of this story and about the Duke of Norfolk proposing marriage to a mere lady in Waiting is foolish as his Grace has said that he is happily married to his wife Elizabeth and anything else he dies he says is just his flirtatious ways.
When you say kidnapping why on earth would you think it was serious of course it was a jest for if not he would know what charges he would face and anyway he always seeks the kings permission and all he wants is to get his niece on the throne.
Now mistress Dawn if you can come up with proof.of this then it will be better for you because if you do not then how do you expect me to believe you m y Lady now please confess to everything as the Duke does not wish to.press charges currently and is it true that you humiliated him at his apartments by giving everything he offered you back and this has angered the lady Anne by the way.
You better hope that Norfolk does not change his mind and presses charges and now.
I hand her the confession paper.
Sign it. | |

| My Lady I will give you a short time to get the letters but before you go I have to inform you that your apartments have already been searched and no so letters or any evidence against the Duke have been found and every detail was searched but if you believe you want to show something to me then you will return under armed guard to your chambers and fetch if you believe you have them but you must return here immediately and show them to me and when I am satisfied I personally will show them to the Duke.
I get the guard to send for Master Kingston.
Tell Master Kingston that he is to escort Mary back yo Whitehall to fetch some so called letters under armed guard and she is to speak to no one and return within the hour.

| Master Secretary if no charges have been brought against me then why have my rooms been searched? I ask Cromwell as to notions to the guards
While I fetch the letters I ask that you speak to Lady Mary Boleyn and Lady Margery Seymour as they were witness to the meeting with His Grace the Duke where I returned his gifts because I did not believe it right to keep them and they were present when he threatened me

| Once left alone in the cell, I stand and look out of the small window and wonder if I shall ever be free.
After retrieving my personal letters from my room surrounded by guards I was led back here and the letters taken from my person, I fear Master Secretary will follow the word of his 'friend' The Duke of Norfolk which will seal my fate despite being innocent.
Returning to the table I sit and plan that if I shall be free then I must leave court to escape this horror

| My lady what are you writing there?
Your words threaten the Duke of Norfolk and he has said he will not take any actions and he is going to come and see you and your letters nobody knew anything about and these could be serious.
I have declared to let you go and you will now be escorted to Kenninghalk where you will apologise to the Duke and make up.

| Master Secretary I look up and close my eyes I am merely dreaming of a life away from court and as for the letters you will notice that I have not written against His Grace those are his own words.
I stand and face him You say I am free yet you now tell me I shall be escorted to Kenninghall to apologise against my wishes I shake my head As I am no longer prisoner I shall go where I wish so I will return to my chambers to ensure I have all my belongings and leave court.
I walk towards the door and bang on it calling for Mr Kingston
