The King's Bedchamber

He frowned and pulled up his breeches in one quick movement as she collapsed at his side. He could see a flush spread from her cheeks down to her panting chest and he gathered her protectively to his side. Carefully, he eased her upon his lap - cradling her in his strong arms as he tugged the sheets around her shoulders.

Instead of speaking, he sat with her and rocked them gently. James mumbled soft Gaelic in her ear and smoothed her hair with one hand. He hushed away her tears with whispered words, his hand began to stroke her neck and back, offering Mary the comfort of his broad, warm chest.

His chest was a greater comfort than the bed itself. I relaxed fully into him the pain between my legs slowly going away as he rocked me like a child. I love you James. He would be a great father to our children was all I could think of.

He kept her close to him, still running his hand over her back. He was nettled that he had allowed her to be hurt by him. He recalled her glossy eyes which had inspired such fiercely protective love in his heart. His passion had then mellowed into tender affection as he rocked her to and fro. "I didn't mean to hurt you, " he said reassuringly and brushed a few stray hairs from her forehead, "Never feel you need to do anything to...impress me - you needn't worry of that, Mary."

James would not have expected her to know certain bedroom tricks, she was noble by birth and nature. He did not resent her naivety, he respected it and her willingness to try different things was endearing. Yet, such was his affections for her - he would not rush or push her into anything. He would be gentle and they would learn - eventually - together. He knew that they were together frequently enough that they would have satisfied whispers of heirs and consummation of their marriage...there was no more rush - only calm in his arms.

I wrapped my arms around his back my head rested peacefully against his chest. I want to be adventurous between the sheets. I wanted to learn everything about James and not just in the bedroom.

He chuckled good naturedly, “You are my wife, love,” he replied and added, “And you are also my Queen.”

James believed she had no reason to assume that he was not pleased with how they were together.
