The Balcony

It had been a few days since I seen or heard from my betrothed, George Boleyn. I wanted to get a little more acquainted with him before we married in a few months. I walked through the Great Hall and to the balcony to see if I could find him. I didn't see where I was walking and I bumped into a another lady who also seemed to be lost.

"Oh excuse me my lady, I wasn't looking where I was walking. Are you alright?" I asked feeling foolish of my two left feet.

Jane looked at the young lady and smiled a little 'Do not mind me My Lady, i was just simply looking over the fair view from this balcony' She said with a kind smile and she looked over to the view once more, and watched the blue sky as clouds where nowhere to be seen in it.

I gave her a warm smile and proceeded to look over the balcony. "Yes it is a beautiful view." I said being happy to have met someone outside the Boleyn family. "I'm Jane Parker, it's nice to meet you."

Jane looked at the woman and smiled 'I am Lady Jane Bassett, Lady in waiting to the Queen Katherine' She said and she curtsied 'You are the Lord Rochfords wife, am i right?' She asked.

I giggled, "Yes I am betrothed to lord Boleyn, although we are not to be married for few weeks" I was very happy that word had spread that my betrothal had gotten around court.

Jane smiled a little and nodded at Jane 'I wish you all the best and happiness and that yous spend a long and happy marriage, and have lots of healthy strong children' She said with a weak smile.

I did not know George all too well, although it seemed most courtier women, such as the lady Basset seemed to have known more than I. I could see it in her expression, "My lady I know we have just met, but I beg you, I George not what I see in my eyes?" I asked terrified of her response.

Jane stuttered for a moment before she stopped and smiled a little 'George is a ..good..honest...man..that i can tell you, he would never harm you Lady Jane' she said with a strong clear voice.

I let out a sigh of relief as she reassured me of George's good manner. I put my hand on her shoulder, "Thank you for your honesty. I just know my father wants me to be married into a good family, and with the Boleyn's raining into society, I feel I will be taken well care of." I smiled back at her.

Jane nodded and smiled 'You will be taken care of, trust me' she said with a smile and she took Jane's hand and whispered 'although, if the Lord Rochford does do..anything....out of manner, tell me, i will deal with him, you can trust me' she said.

I smiled and was pleased to have found such a great friend. "Of course I will" I said with a giggle. "I want to thank you for befriended me, most ladies at court here of my father's wealth and assume i'm some kind of a stuck up priss."

Jane smiled 'You are most welcome, Lady Jane, most people here at this court judge before knowing a person' She said with a sigh.

I put my back towards the back of the wall, "How rude of me, I have been speaking of myself this entire time. What of you, how did you come to court?" I asked as I looked to a servant and called for some wine.

Jane looked down and back up with a smile 'I came from France, my Mother was a mistress to his Majesties father, and that is how i earned my place as Lady in Waiting, before my mother died she sent word to his majesties father asking if i could serve to Katherine, and he agreed, and then she and my father died, and i came here' she said with a smile.

I listened to her story and felt my heart break for the sorrow she had gone through. "I'm so sorry for your loss, it must have been very tragic to have lost both your parents." I said placing my hand on hers trying to comfort her.

Jane shook her head, she never had this much sympathy for when her parents died, she didn't have any at all 'Tis fine, My Lady, no need to worry' She said with a smile.

I took a sip of my wine and smiled, although could not image my life without my parents. "So how are you enjoying court so far? I know sometimes it could be quite harsh for some," I asked changing the subject.

Jane smiled and looked at the woman 'Court life is...stressing, but it has its good times' She said with a small smile and she called for the servant to fetch her wine and she took the goblet in her hand and sipped from it.

"Yes at times it times court can be stressful, although, you forget the glorious parties, dancing, and most of all the handsome men. Speaking of handsome men, have you found any man that has sought your fancy?" I asked since I was yearning for some kind of juicy gossip.

Jane shook her head lightly 'Nay i cannot say i have, i have nothing with men, all just friends' She said and she took a large gulp of wine.

I looked at her knowing there had to at least be one man. "Oh don't be so modest, i'm sure you think his majesty or his gentleman of the privy chamber are quite a appeasing?" I asked with a grin.

Jane giggled a little and nodded 'His majesty is very pleasing' she said with a mischievous sparkle in her eyes.

"Indeed, his majesty is very appeasing. Although, he is very much infatuated with the Lady Boleyn. There is no tearing him away from her." I said knowing that I was soon to be apart of the Boleyn family.
