New Year Celebration

Finally it became less crowded and the attention of the queen and princess Mary was derived to their aunt and the presents she had braught for them. Wolsey approached Henry who was in a good mood now and whispered at him.
´Her Majesty has turned down the offer to enter a nunnery...´

Wolsey remained calm and spoke softly and persuasive at him.

´Campeggio says however that the Pope is willing to consider if he can justify the children you possibly will have with lady Anne, even if you are not married to her.´

Lady Jane Parker was dressed very lovely and she was so pleased to be at the celebrations. She had given some very fine gifts to the King and Queen and she was watching from afar. The King was in deep conversation with Wolsey and Jane really was not fond of that man. She started to scan the crowd and noticed her sister-in-law-to-be and she searched furiously for George. She wanted to see him and speak to him. Perhaps, he would even ask her to dance!

Wolsey paled by his words and looked horrified at Henry while he greeted his friend Anthony warmly. He shivered and remained where he was, all alone though he stared at the crowd with his head upright.

I hear Henry calls Mary's name. I rise to see her holding out my arms, it has been so long since I last saw her. How much she has grown...

Princess Mary Tudor was so thrilled to be near her mother once more. She smiled sweetly and walked with grace over to her. She knew what she had to do. She curtseyed low and looked up at her Mother. Her eyes were sparkling and filled with love.

"Your Majesty," Mary spoke with great admiration. She missed her mother exceedingly. She looked up and saw her Mother's opened arms and stood up and went to her.

"Mama," she spoke sweetly, " I have missed you so!!"

I hugged her so tightly, then picking her up I sat back down next to the King, with her on my knee
"Ohh my darling, I have missed you so much. You have grown up when I haven't been watching.."

Mary smiled at her Mother and gave hera kiss on her cheek. Her eyes were bright. She loved her Mother dearly.

"How are you Mother?" Mary asked. "Are you well? I have been taking great care in my studies and always praying to God. I hope this pleases you, Mama!"

Mary smiled shyly at her mother. Then, her curiousity peaked. Her mind were filled with ideas and she spoke quietly to her mother.

"I am so pleased it is the new year, Mama. God will bless us exceedingly, I think. He loves us dearly," Mary paused for a moment and then continued, "Shall we be travelling this year, Mother. Shall we be visiting anyone or having any special visitors here?"
Her eyes dazzled with excitement.

"God bless you too, my sweetheart. I don't know if we shall be going on progress. You shall have to ask papa.."
She is so bright but yet so unaware of problems in life

Mary nodded and corrected herself, "Yes Mama, that is what I meant. I wanted to know if we were to go on progress. We should talk to Papa about it!" Mary smiled and then noticed her father speaking to a dark haired women. She suspected it was the Lady Anne Boleyn. She had spoken to the Lady Mary Boleyn in the garden a little while ago, but she was unsure. She looked to her Mother and shyly asked, "Is Papa dancing with one of your ladies-in-waiting, Mama?" Mary asked innocently, "Papa does enjoy his dancing!"

Norfolk was standing next to his friend Thomas Boleyn as he saw the King dancing with his cousin Anne. He nodded approvingly and nudged her father who stood with his back to the dancefloor. Boleyn turned around to watch her and after a while he turned back to him, amiling triumphant.

He grinned satisfied and looked vicious at Wolsey, who looked pale and less haughtily as usual. When he caught his gaze, he smiled coldly and raised his glass to him.
To you, cardinal... enjoy, your days are numbered he muttered, well knowing that Wolsey could not hear him but when the cardinal answered his gaze with a fixed look he turned quickly his eyes away from him and looked at the dancefloor again, smiling at Anne.

Thomas, nudged by Norfolk, scouted around and stopped his gaze at his daughter dancing with the king. He couldn't stop the feeling of upcoming victory; he turned to Norfolk and shared his triumph with him. He nodded after drinking to Wolsey's life that won't last long. He glanced at the cardinal.
'He looks rather differently today. Quiet, serious... Disappointed? Doesn't he?'
Rised his eyebrows, then smiled proudly and took a sip of his wine.

He whispered into his ear. Then patted softly his shoulder and walked towards his friend, Anthony Knivert. He opened his arms and hugged him, laughing

I was drinking a goblet of wine when I suddenly heard Henry's voice. I turned around and embraced him with a hug. "Majesty, how are you this evening?" I said with a smile.

I always enjoyed being in the company of his majesty. "Ah you know me Henry, gallivanting around. But you know I am first and fore most here to serve you." I said as I grabbed a goblet of wine from a passing servant.

I took a drink of my wine, "That sounds like a fine idea majesty. I miss the old times! Are you up for the challenge? I laugh jokingly.

Mary giggled at the gaiety and merry-making in the hall. She did not know the secret and forbidden desires of all who attended. They all had ulterior motives. All she knew, as a young child, was she was a Princess and would be married one day. Hopefully, she would be Queen. She also knew that she adored all of the ball gowns and wanted to dance completely. She looked to her Mother for permission.
