I grinned,"Thank you and I should think that your happiness is not far away...should you wish to have children when you marry again?"

Nan looked down for a moment and sighed deeply. Having a child again? She looked at Elizabeth again. "I.. i never thought that. I dont even think about marrying again. If i can find someone i can trust and believe that he's gonna a be a good father.." she looked around and smiled sadly. "Unfortunalety i dont know anyone like that."

I touched her hand softly,"I will pray for your happiness-you are a kind and good woman who deserves the kindest of men."

I then think to Alfonsina and how she will soon give Edward a child,"I have always wanted a child-I can't imagine anything more magical..."

Nan caressed her hand back greatfully and smiled "Really nothing's magical than that.." she said remembering her Daniel and prayed inside his hapiniess in heaven.

"Do you ever think you will return to where you have come from...perhaps you will find a husband there? Although would The King have to give you leave to return home?"

I sigh wistfully thinking of my eagerness to travel.

Nan shook her head quickly. She never really thought about going back to Germany. "No not really. I was born and raised in Germany but i never felt like a German. I'm speaking Germany and English both since i learned how to talk. I've been living here for 3 years. Going back to Germany is so far idea for me" Then she thought about King and smiled wide. "No he would never make me do something i didnt wish.." then her smile dissappeared a little bit. "Except choosing my husband. Actually he let me choose whom i marry with. But he might not approve.

"I'd love to go to Germany...maybe France or Spain. My brother Thomas went on a pilgrimage to Jerusalem and he said it were one of the most beautiful countries in the world. I think -however- Scotland is the most beautiful country. My family own a little home there and I can think of nowhere more magical-it is almost as if there has been a spell cast over the land and even in the most grey days the fields still seem greener than emeralds and the flowers bloom without fail every summer."

I glance at the flowers here and the grass but it can't compare to where I feel my heart is pulled,"Would you choose love and a Kings displeasure or a Kings happiness to sacrifice your own?"

Nan listened her carefully. She looked at her curiously and answered "Oh! I have never been in Scotland. I'd love to go there. I love travelling. I love rainy days but when i first came here England seemed so grey and too much rainy for me. But in time i began loving it. After a little while i couldnt have time to care about weather" she said and took a deep breath. She could smell roses deeply. They were smelling so peaceful and sweet. "King's pleasure or mine... Is it possible to have them both at the same time? " she laughed and shook her head "Maybe my situation is not that hopeless.."

"The rainiest days are the best...or snow!"

I smile at memories from my child hood when I spent days wondering around the fields of Scotland or the grounds around my home in Kent. My brothers playing archery together and me trying to keep track of scores as I made daisy chains neath my favourite willow tree.

"I believe so...however it may not be the easiest option,"I then whisper,"May I ask you something?"

Nan smiled slightly and began to play with her necklace silently. She looked back at him and nodded "Sure.. ask" she waited curiously.

Nan laughed and nodded
"Yeah got it now.."
she thought for few seconds and curved her lips.
"Of course its not the same everytime. Depends on a man. For example some of them might be just interested in your beauty. Even when you laugh they just look at your breasts."
she saw surprised expression on her face and laughed
"Im not kidding. Men's man. "
she said and continued
"But some of them are just warm... They smile when you smile. They just love spending time with you. It would be easy. Smiling, laughing, acting like kid... You never mind he likes or not. He makes you comfortable."
she said and looked around. Suddenly she remembered Edward. How she felt with him. It was really easy with him. Laughing, talking. She can be just herself while he was around. She smiled and added
"Also they might send you gifts, ask for another meeting. Having a walk in gardens, visiting you, leaving notes around.."
She said and looked back at her again.
"What kinda man yours?"

"Well...I do not know if I am too high but...well I met a man and he was very handsome and very charming and seemed to take an interest in me,"I pause and add with a playful smile,"He is from Scotland...infact his brother is...well he is the King."

I then flush and hold my head in my hands,"Oh I am fool! He probably has a whole store of lovers and would not be interested in I..."

I then turn to Nan,"I am sure many men fight for your hand...if my brother were not married I know for certain he would be one of them,"I give her a wink.

Nan watched her silently and began to laugh for her acts.
"Dont say that Elizabeth. Why wouldnt he be in interested with you? You're so beautiful, kind, smart.. what would a man wish for more?"
She said warmly and caressed her shoulder softly
"Dont underestimate yourself. If you cant be aware of what you're capable of, nobody can."
She said friendly and smiled for her last sentence. She really thought that? Most people thought like that but it was not really true. Nobody would fight for her. Never did. She shook her head.
"You're so kind Bess, i dont think so.
She looked down and kept on playing her necklace.

I smile at her kind words,"I hope to have found a friend in you as I have been given kindness from you."

I then giggle and run my fingers through the braid I made with my hair,"I know so...have you spoke with him recently?"

Nan was so greatful for her kind company. She hadnt talked anyone recently that warmly. Elizabeth was so friendly since the day they met. She didnt understand who she meant "Who do you mean?" she said curiously.

Nan remembered that she saw him yesterday afternoon at gardens with his baby while she was sitting with Jane Basset. She felt bad because of what Elizabeth said. Edward really didnt tell that Alfonsina gave birth to Elizabeth. She looked down and answered
"Two days ago we had some time at balcony of great hall, drank some wine, chatted..."
She said and continued
"And i saw him yesterday morning at gardens... with his baby."
She glanced her and looked down again.Alfonsina was one of her best friends but she didnt even tell Nan she was pregnant. Also Nan found out their marriage recently.

I let out a sigh,"So it is true."

I then add softly,"I find it strange...before he met Alfonsina he told me everything and now he barely has time for anything or anyone. I know he is married now but...he seems so very anxious to please her and ensure her happiness that he has no energy for anything else..."

Nan nodded slightly and looked at her sad face again.

"I havent known both of you for a long time maybe but i could feel the strong brother-sister bound between you the first day we met. Also i envy your relationship cause i never had a sibling. Now i can see how its sad for you."

She imagined him with his baby in his arms again and shook her head quickly.

"That night.. we saw each other at balcony, we had chatted about an hour and while we are leaving.."

she remembered that night again and repeated his words.

"I can barely remember he said "thank you" to me. But i didnt understand why"

she said and tried to remember clear but it was hard. Cause that night she drank 7 goblets of wine and she was smiling and giggling all the time. She just remembered what Edward said but she didnt reply him cause she was trying to find her room with his company.

"When we were growing up together he taught me more than my tutors did; taught me how to play the lute, he has a wonderful talent for music...and poetry, taught me how to ride,"I add with a grin,"How to defend myself ...he was very protective of me. I -in my small ways- taught him how dance well-taught him the newest dances for Italy or France..."

I pause and reply in a whisper,"He probably thanked you for allowing him to be himself...I should think it exhausting how he lives now."

Nan smiled for her words. Their relationship was really so nice. She nodded and added

"You might felt like you lost your brother, cause you fell apart, at least for now.. but believe me a bound like you have cannot break easily. Nobody can..

She winked at smiled for her last words surprised

"You really think he's being himself while with me? Is his marriage that difficult for him?"

She asked feeling sorry for him.

"Well yes...and no. I believe that he feels he has done everything in his power to care for Alfonsina and love her- he hasn't even taken a mistress and usually men would whilst their wife was with child,"I pause and tuck a tendril of hair behind my ear,"If I speak frankly I believe he is...well that he is of the belief he does not have her whole heart."
